The Artist — Jack Fairgrieve

Picture painted by Jack Fairgrieve

Jack Fairgrieve is a much loved and cherished member of the United Reformed Church in Royal Wootton Bassett, he’s the artist behind the piece simply called “Picture painted by Jack Fairgrieve”

Jack and his wife Isobel of 73 years; were married on 18th April 1953, moved from Leven in Fife Scotland twenty three years ago to live with their immediate family in a small village just outside of Royal Wootton Bassett.

In 2005 both became members of the United Reformed Church in Wood Street, Royal Wootton Bassett.

They’re pictured together at home this August 2026 both aged 99 years holding a framed picture of themselves on their wedding day on 18th April 1953.

Jack has a love of sketching and painting .. only he can tell you how this love affair began .. He was for many years a regular member of Royal Wootton Bassetts Artists Society, and won many prizes for his artistry which led to some amazing pieces of artwork, of which he still delights in creating.

One such piece he drew from a photograph taken by Joy Mattis (Church Secretary), which was of the United Reformed Church in Royal Wootton Bassett. You can see the painted piece in the photograph called “Picture painted by Jack Fairgrieve“.

It is an amazing testament to his skill, as are many many other pieces that he has created to date.

You’ll also see a photograph of Jack at work, also taken in August 2026.

Congratulations are due to Jack and Isobel as they both step from being nonagenarians into being centenarians very very soon.

Everyone at Royal Wootton Bassett United Reformed Church loves Jack and Isobel so very dearly, and wish them well .. xx
